Day 28: Mosiah 20-23

Welcome to Day 28...

Nephites carrying log
I'm always amazed when I hear someone say the scriptures are boring. This whole King Noah saga is Hollywood material for sure! Gideon chases and traps an evil king on a tower who pathetically begs his way out of execution, only to eventually be burned at the stake by angry followers. And what about the wicked Nephite priests abducting the Lamanite daughters?! How racy.

And then there's Alma's crazy trials.

Great "take home" lessons today: We should rely on the Lord in patience and trust him as we seek to overcome struggles. When we turn TO him, instead of AWAY, he will deliver us from bondage.

Mosiah 23:15" Thus did Alma teach his people, that every man should love his neighbor as himself, that there should be no contention among them."

Mosiah 23:21-22 "Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith. Nevertheless- whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people."

Be Patient.
“Patience is tied very closely to faith in our Heavenly Father. Actually, when we are unduly impatient, we are suggesting that we know what is best—better than does God. Or, at least, we are asserting that our timetable is better than His.”--Neal A. Maxwell “Patience,”Ensign, Oct. 1980, 28.

  1. It is interesting to me that the people of Mosiah, as they became more converted and righteous seemed to be inspired to ask Mosiah about their brethren that had left so long ago--or at least finally King Mosiah was influenced to listen and do something about it. If he had gone earlier, the people of Limhi might not have been ready to receive the help. The people of Limhi needed them and Ammon was able to help at just the right time. It's easy to see the Lord's timing after the fact. It's when the storms rage-- it's sometimes hard to see. The best advice is to be faithful and trust in the Lord. Good people will be inspired to help-- the Lord will come. The gospel is true. I've experienced the wisdom of the Lord's timing many times and I think I'm becoming better at the "being patient part". I also know that as we become closer to the Lord, he can use us to further his work and join him in this exciting work of "rescuing". I don't know if I will get it completely perfect in this life--I'll keep at it. :) I love this book!!!!

  2. Good point!! And yes, we just need to trust in the Lord that somehow everything will always work out....Romans 8:28 "All things work together for good for them that love God." In the end, it allllll going to be okay. And I love this book too!! The Book of Mormon truly is a most precious gift from God to his children in the latter days!! :)
