Day 66: 3 Nephi 20-23

 

The Savior says he will gather us as a shepherd gathers his flock, a hen gathers her chicks or a man "gathereth his sheaves"  (3 Nephi 20:18).  In the latter days, he will be "in the midst of [us]" and give the "fullness of his gospel" and covenants, reassuring us of safety and eternal blessings.   (3 Nephi 20:22) 

Some beautiful lines from today's reading: "With everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee" and "no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper."  Enjoy reading about the house of Israel and how it applies to us in the latter days!

"In 3 Nephi 20–22 are prophecies about the house of Israel and the Gentiles and how the Lord will fulfill the covenants He has made with His children. Descendants of those with whom the Lord has made covenants are called the “children of the covenant” and are entitled to certain blessings associated with those covenants if they are faithful. Ultimately, however, the covenant of the Lord is that all of the children of Heavenly Father will have the opportunity to become a part of the covenant family and receive salvation and exaltation. The teachings in these three chapters are a testimony from Jesus Christ Himself that He will, in time, fulfill every part of this great covenant for both the house of Israel and the Gentiles—in other words, for the entire family of God."

“Let us qualify ourselves for our Savior’s promise that by partaking of the sacrament we will ‘be filled’ (3 Ne. 20:8; see also 3 Ne. 18:9), which means that we will be ‘filled with the Spirit’ (3 Ne. 20:9). That Spirit—the Holy Ghost—is our comforter, our direction finder, our communicator, our interpreter, our witness, and our purifier—our infallible guide and sanctifier for our mortal journey toward eternal life. Out of the seemingly small act of consciously and reverently renewing our baptismal covenants comes a renewal of the blessings of baptism by water and by the Spirit, that we may always have his Spirit to be with us.
