Day 48: Alma 45-46

Welcome to Day 48...

After speaking to Helaman, Alma departed
"as if to go into the land of Melek. He was never heard of more. We suppose that [God] has also received Alma in the spirit unto himself...as with Moses." (Alma 45:18-19)

Unfortunately, "there must needs be opposition in all things." Evil individuals inadvertently inspire and bring out greatness in those who oppose them. Amalekiah is one of those evil individuals. He "led away the hearts of many to do wickedly," sought to destroy the church and in addition, become king of the Nephites. This utterly infuriated Moroni! He tore his coat and wrote:

"In memory of our God and religion and freedom, our peace, our wives and our children." He posted this "Title of Liberty" in every Nephite city and all the righteous men came "running together with their armor" in response to Moroni's battle cry, covenanting that "they would not forsake the Lord their God...they took upon them gladly the name of Christ, or CHRISTIANS, as they were called because of their belief in Christ who should come."

Moroni then set out to capture and kill Amalikiah, but as often happens, snakes slip away.
With the bad guys out of the picture and Helaman as high priest, there was much "peace and rejoicing in the church," for a season.

Enjoy a rousing and inspirational read, reminding us of the value of faith, family and liberty. How are we defending those principles today and are we willing to lay down our lives for them? What are you really willing to fight for?

Alma 46:8 "Thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the Lord their God, yea, how quick to do iniquity, and to be led away by the evil one."

“We're not going to survive in this world, temporally or spiritually, without increased faith in the Lord- and I don't mean a positive mental attitude- I mean downright solid faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the one thing that gives vitality and power to otherwise rather weak individuals.” --A. Theodore Tuttle, “Developing Faith” Ensign, Nov. 1986, 72.
