Day 18: 2 Nephi 27-31

Welcome to Day 18!

Time to...

Today's reading has some great classics in it, so get your highlighter ready: "A marvelous work and a wonder...", He comes with "healing in his wings"..."Eat, drink and be merry"..."All is well in Zion"... "Line upon line, precept on precept"..."A Bible, A Bible, we have got a Bible"..."Press forward...feasting on the words of Christ."

Such beautiful, powerful verses!!

                     Joseph Smith in Sacred Grove
In chapter 27, Isaiah prophesies that the Lord would “do a marvelous work and a wonder” in the last days. This "work" was the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He saw that the Book of Mormon would play a central role in the latter days—that it would be a miraculous gift to millions! How thrilling that must have been for him to know his efforts would produce such incredible fruit.

Nephi’s final writings encompass what he defined as “the doctrine of Christ” (2 Nephi 31:2, 20-21; 32:6), which includes:

"Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men...if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end...ye shall have eternal life." 2 Nephi 31:20

When we center our lives on the simple and sweet "doctrine of Christ," the Spirit fills our hearts and gives us peace, focus and direction.

Praying for us all to feel that today in our study session. Press forward, friends!

"For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have." (2 Nephi 28:30)

"Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?" 2 Nephi 29:6-7

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism—yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel." 2 Nephi 31:13

“So where should each of us make our stand? As we demonstrate our devotion to God by our daily acts of righteousness, He can know where we stand. For all of us this life is a time of sifting and refining. We all face trials. Individual members in the early days of the Church were tested and refined when they had to decide if they had the faith... to put their belongings in a wagon or a pioneer handcart and travel across the American plains. In our time we are going through an increasingly difficult time of refining and testing. The tests are more subtle because the lines between good an evil are being eroded. Very little seems to be sacred in any public communication. In this environment we will need to make sure where we stand all of the time in our commitment to eternal truths and covenants.” --James E. 1. 2 Nephi 31:20 was our mission zone scripture for October. We would recite it as a group every morning during prayer meeting. These final words of Nephi are rich and precious. He was shown so much concerning our day as were all the prophets. Nothing new or surprising happening. It is all fulfillment of prophecy. How can we doubt? As covenant children, we have our individual and collective assignments during this great and dreadful time. Let's go forward in faith. We know who is going to prevail so we need not fear.

  2. I love this!! Thank you for sharing! And yes, our day IS all a fulfillment of prophecy and we cheerfully press forward in faith and hope! :) Getting large amounts of "scripture infusion" fills us with the positive energy (light of Christ) that we need!
