Day 21: Jacob 7, Enos: Jarom; Omni

Welcome to Day 21....

Now Sherem enters the scene! The first official "Anti-Christ" of the Book of Mormon.  Sherem was well-educated and eloquent as he attacked the gospel, but Jacob “could not be shaken.” (Jacob 7:5)

Sherem's demise is the result of all who hearken to "the father of lies." (And BTW, never ask for a "sign." Big mistake!)

Wisely, "the love of God was restored again among the people and they searched the scriptures and hearkened no more to the words of this wicked man."

Then, on to Prayerful Enos! Have you ever prayed for 10 minutes? How about 20, 30 or 60?  Well, Enos prayed ALL day AND night! Because he "hungered" after righteousness in this manner, he was forgiven of his sins and able to confidently express,"And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father."

By reading our scriptures, we are hungering after righteousness as well and can be filled with the same confidence and faith to "see His face with pleasure."  :)

Elder Robert D. Hales on having Enos-like faith:

"I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved." Omni 1:26

“The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan by which we can become what children of God are supposed to become. This spotless and perfected state will result from a steady succession of covenants, ordinances, and actions, an accumulation of right choices, and from continuing repentance. 'This life is the time for men to prepare to meet God' (Alma 34:32). Now is the time for each of us to work toward our personal conversation, toward becoming what our Heavenly Father desires us to become. As we do so, we should remember that our family relationships... are the setting in which the most important part of that development can occur. The conversation we must achieve requires us to be a good husband and father or a good wife and mother... Exaltation is an eternal family experience, and is our mortal family experiences that are best suited to prepare us for it.” --- Dallin H. Oaks
