Day 9: 2 Nephi 1-2

Welcome to Day 9!

Today Lehi's final words to his family are LOADED with gems! He prophesies of incredible things - the destiny of America, his descendants, that we must spiritually AWAKEN, that when we keep the commandments we prosper, redemption comes through the Messiah, there must be opposition in all things for us to grow, we have the power to act and NOT be acted upon thanks to AGENCY...etc. So many beautiful reminders to CHOOSE eternal life!!

2 Nephi 2:2 has been particularly comforting to me through the years: "...He shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain."

I love the sentiment Lehi shared after repenting: "I have beheld his glory and am encircled about eternally in the arms of His love."  (2 Nephi 1:15)   What a beautiful way to describe this blissful state.

That thought will get US through anything! Let us "Awake and arise"...and "shake off the chains" which bind us and make choices that will lead us to the arms of His love!

Enjoy a wonderful study session!
  • Opening Song:"Lord Would Follow Thee"                 (listen with "agency" in mind)

  • Begin study session with prayer
  • Scripture to Mark and Ponder: 2 Nephi 2:27 Agency. Choose eternal life!! (Ever think about the opposite of that? Satan's road is eternal death.)

"For it must be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be compounded in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility." 2 Nephi 2:11

2 Nephi 2:13: And if ye shall say there is no law, ye shall also say there is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin, ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not, there is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away.

“When we give thanks in all things, we see hardships and adversities in the context of the purpose of life... We are meant to learn and grow through opposition, through meeting our challenges, and through teaching others to do the same... the Lord will not only consecrate our afflictions for our gain, but He will use them to bless the lives of countless others.”--Dallin H. Oaks,” “Give Thanks in All Things,” Ensign, May 1993
